Our Story
Mahj House Rules was born from friendship, laughter, and a shared love for the game that brings people together. For founders Brittany and Melissa, Mahjong started as more than tiles on a table, it was a lifeline to connection, creativity, and joy.
Brittany began playing Mahjong in 2021, when life as a new mom left her craving community and a spark of mental challenge. The moment she heard the click of the tiles & saw the eye-catching colors, she was hooked. Soon, she was teaching friends, neighbors, and anyone who wanted to learn, eventually launching Mahj Social Club, a teaching company that built a vibrant community of players across Austin & beyond. Through those lessons, she saw first hand what worked, and what didn’t.
Melissa, a former teacher turned stay-at-home mom, found the same magic in the game: the laughter, the camaraderie, and the rare moment to do something just for herself. Together, the two friends began dreaming of a Mahjong tile that reflected the heart of the game, sophisticated yet fun, timeless yet personal, elegant yet accessible.
