Our Story
Mahj House Rules was born from friendship, laughter, and a shared love for the game that brings people together. For founders Brittany and Melissa, Mahjong quickly became more than tiles.
Brittany picked up the game in 2021 as a new mom hungry for community and a mental spark outside the office. The moment she heard the click of the tiles & saw the eye-catching colors, she was all in. Eventually launching Mahj Social Club and teaching hundreds of players across Central Texas and beyond. Through those lessons, she saw first hand what worked, and what didn’t. Melissa, a former teacher turned stay-at-home mom, found the same magic in the game: the laughter, the camaraderie, and the rare moment to do something just for herself.
Together, they dreamed up a brand that actually reflects the heart of modern Mahjong: sophisticated but fun, timeless but personal, elegant yet accessible.

At Mahj House Rules, we believe pretty tiles shouldn't be a dream, they should be a reality. Our mission is simple: elevate the tradition of American Mahjong with stunning, design-forward sets that are as beautiful as they are attainable. We deliver high quality, punchy tiles, at a price that more players can afford. We are fueled by passion and a commitment to quality.
In the resurgence of modern-day American Mahjong, the game rules are written by the National Mahjong League, however, several new "house rules" have been created and are played in variations from home to home. We believe and honor the history of this timeless game and we love the uniqueness that has surfaced in recent years. While our sets can be used in the most traditional sense, we wanted to add an edge and bring to life some of these "house rules" in our personal collections. Each set has it’s own suggested house rules for players to get fun and edgy in their own settings.
